Fun Places
One of the things Joyce and I love most about living in Florida is the year-round good weather and availability to all sorts of wonderful places to get out and see. There is always something new to see, a town we have not been through, a festival we have not experienced, a museum not parused, a beach not combed, well you get the drift. Of course we have our favs, those spots we tend to keep going back to because they are special, usually because they are away from the tourist crowds, but not always!
Sand Key Park - 1060 Gulf Blvd, Clearwater, FL, 33767 - Imagine the white, soft sands of Clearwater beach without the head-banging music, thousands of teens yelling and running all over, and thousands of parents yelling after thousands of kids! This is Sand Key in a nutshell! It is the same beautiful, world-class beach but it is nestled inside a beautiful family friendly park, and is peaceful and serene. They have a wonderful facility for showering and changing afterwards, everything is clean, safe and well kept. You do have to pay to park, but it is worth the $5 to have a great day at the beach.
Manatee Public Beach - Anna Maria Island - 4000 SR 64 and Gulf Dr, Holmes Beach, FL 34217 - Anna Maria Island is the best beach in the world! Bar none! Miles of the softest white sand, blue warm gulf waters, peaceful easy fealings, what more could you want? Ok, if you get your but up early and drive over in the AM, you can get all you can eat pancake breakfast for $5.99 at the Anna Maria Island Beach Cafe, which is conveniently at the head of the parking lot to this beach!
Lille Toot Dolphin Adventure - 25 Causeway Blvd, Slip 16, Clearwater Beach, FL 33767 - You get to ride in a tug boat that takes you out in the Gulf of Mexico and looks for pods of dolphins to swim with the boat. If they don’t find you dolphins you get a free cruise! It is about 1.5 hours on the water and a lot of fun!
Honeymoon Island State Park - 1 Causeway Blvd, Dunedin, FL 34698 - Just North of Tarpon Springs is this jewel of Florida’s park system. This is really two islands in one, Honeymoon Island is fun all on it’s own, but if you pay a small fee you can tak a ferry ride, see dolphins, and end up at Caladesi Island. This barrier island is pristine, wild Florida, and has a great beach too! A great place to pack a picnic a spend the day away from it all with someone you love!
Tropicana Field - 1 Tropicana Dr, St. Petersburg, FL 33705 - The Tampa Bay Rays play pro baseball out of Tropicana Field in St. Pete every summer. This is one of the best pro sports deals in Tampa Bay! You can get good seats for almost any game, and have a great day or night at the ball park!
Kennedy Space Center - Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Space Commerce Way, Merritt Island, FL 32953 - NASA’s space center on Florida’s east coast. This is a must see trip for everyone who ever dreamed of being an astronaut as a kid! Or maybe you still do! A great day trip.
Busch Gardens Tampa - 10165 McKinley Dr, Tampa, FL 33612 - Beautiful surroundings, great acts, roller coasters, water rides, wild animals, good food and beer!
